Hand Back Health is piloting an economic empowerment project to skill young adult females with visual impairment in professional massage therapy rendering them highly employable and leading to economic independence.
The project will focus on young adult women with visual impairment due to the inherent difficulties for this portion of the population to gain employment. A person with a disability is almost twice as likely to be unemployed and women are at an even greater disadvantage. This pilot project aims to increase employment opportunities for visually impaired women by providing vocational training in a skill that is applicable to their disability, provides a multitude of employment and self-employed possibilities whilst also providing a community wellness service need.
One of the priorities of Hand Back Health has always been to promote the Chiropractic profession and alternative healthcare in Africa. Hand Back Health has been instrumental in aiding to gain recognition and regulation of Chiropractic in Uganda. We are hopeful that this will lead to further development of the profession in the country. We are privileged in being pioneers of the chiropractic profession in Uganda. Through our service we have proven the need and demand for Chiropractic and we hope that through our example multidisciplinary care including chiropractic continues to grow and expand in Uganda.
Alongside regulation of the profession, we recognise the need for more Chiropractors in the region. We are proud to have brought a number of Chiropractors to Uganda, now practicing on a full-time basis. However, the only viable solution to the lack of qualified professionals is to develop a local chiropractic education structure. Hand Back Health is eager to aid this endeavor to build a Chiropractic Institution in Uganda or East Africa.
